Clemson Tigers 2011 Profile
Recruiting has rarely been an issue for the Tigers in the past decade. At one point, they were a top 20 4 year recruiter and had the potential for a BCS Title berth. That was a few years ago and there has been a HC change and recruiting had dipped. But in 2011, the #10 class nationally was signed by Clemson. At #23 nationally over the last 4 years, the Tigers have talent in line with Stanford, South Carolina and Arkansas. There is no excuse for season under 8-4 in the ACC with this talent.
However, after one year, Coach Swinney is the only net negative game coach in the ACC (Miami and NC fired their net neg. game coaches). The CFBMatrix model showed a -2 game effect in 2010. Equally troubling is that he produced no upset wins. Without watching any games, it appears as though he is playing to lose and not aggressive in trying to put teams away.
Two notes: Recruiting is solid and bordering elite. Coaching must improve in 2011 or you have the wrong coach. Two start net negative coaching years is rarely turned to positive. It is a very tough schedule. 7 wins OK, 8 solid, over 8 really good and time for some renewed optimism.

Clemson Schedule and SOS/EOS Breakdown
Why would an AD schedule and OOC with any SEC team? I know the USC game is necessary and needed, but Auburn? Come on. Today’s CFB is about winning. No only it that a tough game, but every if you win, it sets up for Clemson to get take on FSU then VATech the very next two weeks. That is a set up for failure on many levels.
The OOC for Clemson is one of the toughest in the country. It gets knocked down a bit by two cupcakes, but in terms of EOS and threats to lose games, it is the hardest in the country.
