Rutgers Scarlet Knights 2011 Profile

The 2010 season was a complete disaster for the Scarlet Knights.  Losing 3 home games in conference that they should have won killed what could have been a solid season.  So the million dollar question is does Schiano bounce back in 2011 with a good year or have the wheels come off?  Schiano is an OK -1 on the road over the last 4 seasons and -5 at home (in large part to 2011).  The Big East has a bunch of new and 2nd year coaches.  Rutgers has the talent and schedule to pull off a 1-3 finish in the Big East with a #39 4 year recruiting rank and an improved #32 2011 cycle recruiting rank

Rutgers Schedule and SOS/EOS Breakdown

Rutgers has one of the easiest SOS ranks in the Big East and in the country.  If this is the year they bounce back in the Big East, it is 2011.  To date Schiano is a -1 game coach, meaning he usually gets credit for -1 game under the projected Matrix record for a season.

This year that is projected as 8-4 as noted below in the schedule breakdown.  9 wins are expected as a ‘normal’ year and in a conference with so little talent and new coaching the Knights will impact the conference this season.

The last 4 weeks are going to be critical.  I expect them to lose to West Virginia (#29RR) and then go on a 4 game win streak.  This should put them #3 to #1 in the conference and in the top 25.  The CFBMatrix is the only major national publication putting Rutgers potentially in the top 25 at year’s end and in the top 3 in the conference.
